What Did Covid-19 Teach Us About John’s Gym?

Running a gym during a pandemic and what it has taught us.

More Than A Gym

We’ve known we’re not the traditional gym because you don’t just come here to lift weights and leave. It’s the camaraderie of the people in your Boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ, or MMA class that helps to keep you coming back. So when we were closed, and even when we opened with limited class sizes and times, we heard from our members about how they miss the classes and their training partners. It was tough just being home not exercising like we normally do; some people were home alone too, adding to the stress.

Therapy

The stress relief you get after working out is probably one of the main reasons Doctors, counselors, psychologists recommend it so often. After a great workout the endorphins are pumping and you feel good – natural high. It’s like therapy for some people, they need to get their workout session in for the day or week. Not having that release can be problematic. My mom used to always say, “An idle mind is a devils playground.”

Community

The sense of community here is amazing to see. People checking up on each other and wonder how they’ve been, making sure they’re ok. It was great to see people hanging out talking before and after class, no one was in a rush to get back home.

Going It Alone

It’s hard to do stick to a workout routine on your own, we’ve all joined gyms and canceling the gym membership basically looking the same. What we saw though was our members came back stronger than before and more eager to learn after Covid-19. Having that Coach or that training partner that makes coming to the gym fun makes it so much easier for you to stick to your work routine.

Come and check out our vibe and classes for yourself, and if you don’t live near North West Austin / Cedar Park area and you’re looking for a MMA gym near you, you can give us a call and we’ll recommend some places. Either way, come and see what makes John’s Gym such a great place to stay consistent while reaching your physical goals.
