Introduction

A native south Texan, Ernesto moved to Austin to establish a career in architecture after serving his country as a Civil Engineer in the United States Army, where he competed on the Judo and Boxing Team. The discipline of Judo was introduced to him at the young age of 11 by his uncle, the late Conrado Peralez

His uncle was the head instructor of the Judo program at the local community college in his hometown.  Ernesto quickly learned the importance of discipline, respect, pressure, and maintaining a low center of gravity by sparring with nothing but adults at such a young age. These are just a few of the qualities he is known for passing down to his students and even his own children.

Upon returning to civilian life after the military, he ambitiously pursued training in other disciplines such as BJJ and Muay Thai in his free time. He later began teaching classes on top of working at a growing architecture firm.  Needless to say, teaching martial arts became a third job for him where sleep was non-existent.  Especially with four active children who were also accomplished athletes. Ernesto later competed in BJJ and MMA to test his well-rounded skills against some of the most elite of his time. No matter the sport, you would always find his own children by his side cheering their dad on. His goal in life has always been about setting a great example for others with complete selflessness.

Ernesto is now a recognized and accomplished martial arts instructor who has professionally trained civilian, civil service, and military personnel. He has produced multiple champions in the sport of BJJ and MMA. He has also trained extensively with XFC, WFC, IFL, WEC, King of Kombat, and UFC veterans.

These events help raise funds for the honorable W.W.P. (Wounded Warrior Project). In 2015 Ernesto and his son earned the prestigious ‘Spartan Trifecta’ medal by competing in the 5 mile Sprint, 10 mile Super, and 15 mile Beast Spartan Races.
As an architect, Ernesto and his mentor have had five projects selected for the Austin American Institute of Architects (AIA) Homes Tour within the last decade. In November of 2015, he began his own architectural practice focusing on high-end residential Texas Contemporary Design. Ernesto has recently come out of retirement to continue to teach formal martial arts classes with his youngest son by his side. John’s Gym Austin has opened its doors to Mr. Peralez and has officially welcomed him to the family.
