Kids Martial Arts

What Is Jiu Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is often called Arte Suave, or “The Gentle Art,” because it relies on technique, timing, and leverage rather than size or strength. Instead of punching or kicking, students learn how to control an opponent through positioning, takedowns, escapes, joint locks, and chokes.

BJJ is primarily practiced on the ground, where students learn how to safely defend themselves and work through challenging situations. During training, the goal isn’t to hurt your training partner—it’s to use technique to put them in a position where they choose to “tap,” signaling that they want to stop. Students are taught to tap early and often, creating a safe and respectful training environment.

For kids, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a fun way to stay active while developing confidence, problem-solving skills, discipline, and self-defense abilities—all without relying on punches or kicks. It’s a great way for children to learn how to stay calm under pressure, overcome challenges, and build confidence both on and off the mats.

About Kids Boxing

Boxing is a combat sport that focuses on using punches, footwork, movement, defense, and strategy. Students learn fundamental techniques such as the jab, cross, hook, and uppercut while practicing how to move effectively and protect themselves.

At its core, boxing is about much more than throwing punches. It teaches timing, coordination, focus, discipline, and perseverance while providing an excellent full-body workout.

Our coaches create a fun, structured environment where kids can stay active, learn new skills, and challenge themselves at their own pace. Beyond learning boxing technique, kids develop focus, respect, teamwork, and perseverance. They train alongside a positive group of peers who encourage one another and help make the gym a welcoming place to learn and grow. Whether your child is interested in boxing for fitness, confidence, self-defense, or simply wants to try something new, our Kids Boxing program is a great place to get started.

What Positive Impact

Can I Expect For My Child?

  • Paying Attention – Kids who have a hard time paying attention and focusing on tasks see a big improvement from our martial arts program. Primarily because of the physical aspect of it, but also from the loving attention and discipline our coaches give. We have many kids who have been diagnosed ADD or ADHD that are finally able to put their talents to work in a fun and engaging environment where they want to focus.
  • Calming Confidence – It’s a common misconception that learning self defense and martial arts will make your child want to fight more; rather, what happens over time is they grow a quiet confidence where they don’t want to start an altercation, but would rather diffuse the situation through talking first. Our instructors make it clear that the techniques we teach them are for self defense not for starting fights.
  • Self-Respect – Think about it. If you’re a child with no knowledge of how to defend yourself, are you going to stand up to the bully? Probably not. Having self-respect comes from confidence, and that kind of confidence comes from coming to martial arts class and learning how to defend themselves. Then, if being teased or confronted with a bully, your child can more confidently use their words to diffuse a situation without fear because they know how to defend themselves.
  • Weight Loss – Our Martial Arts are active and lots of fun. Whether they are training with a partner or doing solo drills, they’ll be leaving each class with a sweat. The parents love seeing their kids in a positive atmosphere sweating alittle bit rather than seeing them plopped on the couch staring at their phones or tv.
  • Coordination – We do many drills and techniques that require them to develop and increase their whole body coordination so that they feel stronger and more aware of their body.
  • And Many More, Just Imagine

Yes we do. Our Jiu Jitsu program is divided into Level 1 for Kids and Level 2 for Kids.

Although we can’t guarantee that there won’t be some bumps and bruises along the way, rest assured that we have adequate staff at each class to ensure proper safety. Having said that, these are active martial arts, and with any sport/active martial art there are chances for your child to get some bumps and bruises. However, if you let us do what we do best, your child will come out the other side stronger and more determined than ever.

Yes, absolutely. Jiu Jitsu is primarily a ground martial art. For example: boxing and muay thai are stand-up martial arts, but what happens if someone takes you to the ground? That’s where Jiu Jitsu comes in. Through leverage and techniques they’ll learn in class they’ll be able to defend themselves very quickly. We don’t teach theory, this is applicable safe techniques that you can start feeling comfortable with from day 1.

Although not mandatory, all of our kids are encouraged to spar/roll with their teammates so they can get a practical realistic feel for the techniques they have been learning. We want them to apply what they learn in a safe environment with supervision so they can feel safer once they leave our doors.
